Guy Beahm, A.K.A. Dr. Disrespect, issued a lengthy post on X (formerly Twitter), today regarding his recent controversy. In 2020 Beahm was released from his Twitch contract, with little or no explanation, with Beahm himself pleading ignorance as to what the reasoning was. Earlier this week a former Twitch employee with knowledge of the reason, let go of this secret on X. In this tweet the former employee alleged that the good Doctor, had been implicated in a planned meet up with a minor at twitch con. Initially Beahm had denied all of this, using the statement that Twitch released him, paid out his contract and had found no wrong doing, while never acknowledging the alleged reason for the investigation. Well, as of a few hours ago, that has all changed, as The Midnight Society, a game dev venture co-founded by Beahm released a statement that they had mutually cut ties with Beahm. Since then, Beahm has taken to Twitter to announce that this is indeed true, and that he has left to keep his controversy away from the company.
In this statement, he goes on to clarify that he did indeed speak to a minor via the Twitch Whisper function, and that some of the conversation may have “leaned toward the inappropriate” but nothing illegal or untoward happened. I feel like this is a cop out, as if you knew this person was a minor, it never should have even gotten anywhere near inappropriate. He goes on to say, he will return after some time away. I personally think he should stay gone, the damage is done, and he doesn’t seem very remorseful, but I don’t make those decisions. Either way, he’s definitely got a very tarnished image now, and climbing back from this one won’t be easy.
