Live the cozy Barista life in Tokyo

The original Coffee Talk, a charming game about talking to your customers and making them their favorite hot drinks, was a surprise during a couple of years where the world was literally paused and peopld needed connections that they could no longer reach in a world in quarantine. Followed up by the equally charming episode 2, this series has garnered quite the following. For the uninitiated, Coffee Talk is set in a world where Humans and mythical creatures (or in Tokyo’s case Yokai) live in a strained harmony, and come into their regular coffee shop to have a nice drink and converse with their favorite barista (that’s you).

In this newest installment, you’ll be introduced to an entirely new clientel. As in the first two games, you will have a mix of Yokai and Human customers, all of whom come with their own share of dreams, aspirations, and all too human problems, and a mighty thirst that you will have to slake. Set in the city of Tokyo, the vibe may be different, but helping others through the power of conversation and coffee remains the name of the game. This can be as simple as a latte or complex and custom, leaving it up to you to figure out how to make their drink dreams come true. If you’ve never played a dating sim or a visual novel, and are more accustomed to fast paced action, this may not be the game for you, but if you are inclined to sit back, relax and invest in a nice slice of life and an interesting world told through pure character interaction, then you could certainly find something to love in this series.

So far it looks like even though we are in a new city (the original games both took place in Seattle), the developers have taken an if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it approach. I’m fine with this, as the original games charm and writing pushed it into one of my fave series. We will find out more this year, as we should be serving drinks and slices of life sometime in 2025!
