Gamescom 2024 is happening this week, and we’ve already been made privy to a lot of really cool announcements for the future of videogames and entertainment. Last year we saw news on hit games like Mortal Kombat 1, Cyberpunk 2077:Phantom Liberty, and a heap of others, and this year has started off even bigger! Here’s what we’ve seen so far:
Borderlands 4
While we didn’t learn a whole lot from this teaser trailer, and Gearbox is mum on the details for now, but we did get to wipe the taste of the Borderlands movie from our mouths with this palette cleanser. We’ve known this was coming for a while, but it’s nice to have an official teaser to whet our appetites! Check out the official teaser in the embedded video above, and start waiting like the rest of us, and start looting again sometime in 2025!
Dying Light: The Beast
Rather than give fans DLC for Dying Light 2, Techland has decided to go the smaller/side story route for this outing in their Dying Light Franchise. Dying Light: The Beast promises 20 hours of gameplay, set in a new open world zone, full of the parkour and zombie slaying that fans have come to expect. The game features 4 player co-op and the ability to run single player. No release date or price announced, but it will be coming to PC, Xbox, and Playstation consoles when released.
Civilization VII
It’s been a long 8 years since Civ 6 released, and now we have a solid date for the 7th entry, along with a gameplay reveal. While it appears they are definitely in an if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it mindset, it is definitely the Civ gameplay you’ve come to know and love. and now you can plan to have it in your hands when it releases on Feb. 11th on all major platforms.
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle
It’s no shocker that Indy is releasing this year (Dec. 9th specifically) for the PC and Xbox Series of consoles, but what Microsoft did hit us with, after originally claiming complete exclusivity on this one, was an announcement for the Playstation, with a port coming in 2025! This one is a bit of a higher profile announcement among Microsofts pledge of bringing some of it’s titles to Sony’s platforms. I’m personally a huge fan of this, as it’s a win for all gamers in my book. New Trailer didn’t show off any mind blowing new footage, but you can check it out above in the embedded post from X (Formerly Twitter).
Marvel’s Rivals
Marvel’s Rivals, a new hero shooter in the vein of Overwatch, which recently finished it’s closed beta, was finally given a new release date: Dec. 6th. If you’re a fan of overwatch you’re going to want to check this one out, as that’s exactly the game, but with marvel comics characters, like Iron Man, Spider-man, and The Hulk. Using the free-to-play model of so many modern shooters, it also boasts that all characters will be available at no extra cost. You can find this available for PC, Xbox, and Playstation platforms. Excelsior!
Mafia: The Old Country
8 years out from the last entry, Mafia III, we were given a nice, quick little teaser for a new Mafia game. Not a ton of details other than it seems to take place in the 1900’s, and in Italy, and follows the origins of the mafia. Not much more to talk about with this one at this point in time, so check back later for more.
Masters of Albion
Legendary (and infamous) game designer Peter Molyneux returns, going back to his roots in the God Game genre, with the upcoming open-world god game, Masters of Albion. Peter is well known for makig very ambitious promises that don’t always come to fruition, Fable series, I’m looking at you, but we will see if he comes back with some more crazy promises. And maybe even delivers. This one is just a first look, so we haven’t heard any details as of yet, but we will soon, I hope!
Dune: Awakening
This one I’m looking forward to trying out, as I am knee deep into my first reading of the 60’s classic book, Dune. While the movie is more based on the recent movies, I still want to give this one a look. Funcom showed off some exclusive gameplay from the upcoming survival-crafting shooter, at start players will craft their own Arrakis stranded prisoner. You will be faced with the harsh environments of the desert planet, with hazards such as heat stroke, thirst, and the ever present and dangerous Sandworms, which can be used to your advantage as a weapon against your enemies. You will form alliances, create guilds with others, and take control of all the precious spice you can get your hands on. Looks like a ton of fun with a few twists on a tried and true genre. It will hit PC, Xbox Series x/s, and Playstation 5 in the first half of 2025.
Batman Arkham Shadow VR
Rocksteady’s always amazing Arkham series is coming to VR! Exclusive to the metaquest 3, this new game looks to give us a first-person dive into the Arkham world. You can see a bit of story and a lot of gameplay in this trailer, and you can get your hands on this one sometime in October!
Monster Hunter Wilds
This one was actually announced last year at Gamescom, but Capcom graces us with an extended look at the newest entry in the wildly popular Monster Hunter series, Monster Hunter Wilds. We got to see more gameplay, some of the co-op features and a look at a new map location. You can go into the Wilds sometime in 2025 on PC, Xbox series, and Playstation 5.
Lost Records: Bloom & Rage
We got an announcement of this title at last years Gamescom. Lost Records comes to us from Don’t Nod the creators of the fan favorite Life is Strange series. Keeping in vein with LiS, Lost Records: Bloom and Rage is a narrative adventure that takes place during the reunioin of a group of friends after 27 years. In the first look, we get an idea of the secrets this group shares, and possibly tries to keep hidden. Expect tons of twists and turns in this one, and of course an emotional roller coaster. Part 1 will be available Feb. 18th, with part 2 launching a month later on March 18th. Catch them on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series x/s.
Genshin Impact on Xbox
A big announcement for the Xbox platform, the mega popular Genshin Impact will finally be available on Microsoft’s consoles. Having been available for a long time on PC, PS, and mobile systems, Xbox players will now finally have a chance to see what the gacha fuss is all about. The game should be showing up on Nov. 20th, 2024.
