Big Things Ahead

Sony’s recent State of Play came out, and did it come out swinging. Sony decided to bring the big guns with this one, with tons of major announcements dropping. So, with that being said, let’s jump right into it!

Castlevania:Belmont’s Curse

One of the announcements that I am most excited about, is a new 2D entry in a longstanding franchise. 2026 is already shaping up to be a great year in gaming for me. Getting a new 2D Castlevania game is definitely going to be a highlight. Featuring a new character, who looks a lot like a re-imagined Sonia Belmont, who was the lead character in the game boy game Castlevania Legends. Sporting a great stylized art direction, it looks to continue the metroidvania tradition of SOTN. Developed by Evil Empire and Motion Twin, look for this one sometime this year.

God of War Trilogy Remake

Another very exciting announcement, but one with not a lot of concrete details. Sony Santa Monica is working on a complete remake of the original Greek God slaying trilogy. Kratos origins are revisited, as he ascends to Godhood and brings a cataclysmic war to Olympus. Definitely one to keep an eye on, as we learn more along the way.

God of War: Sons of Sparta

Continuing on with the God of War announcements, we were also treated to a new 2D entry in the franchise, and a first for it as well. Unlike a lot of the games announced at the State of Play, this one was shadow dropped, which means you can get your grubby little mitts on it now! Brought to us by Mega Cat games, a young Kratos his brother Deimos will fight their way through a Metroidvania quest. Available now, I know I will be giving it a try, you should too.

Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection vol. 2

Konami still continuing with their excellent announcements, are finally giving MGS fans a new way to play Metal Gear Solid 4, along with another excellent entry stuck on old hardware, MGS: Peace Walker, originally stuck on the PSP. Also listed on the box art was another niche entry, the GBC game Ghost Babel, but it was listed as a bonus, so this is unclear if they are releasing the game, or just maybe an interactive synopsis of sorts. Either way, this should be an excellent pick up for any gamer, and will be available on August 27 of this year.

Best of the Rest

Among those huge announcements, we were also treated to some new Capcom updates: Resident Evil Requiem was given a final trailer before it’s release on February 27. Pragmata was given an official and long awaited release date of April 24.  Bungie announced a “Server Slam” beta from February 26 to March 2, followed by a full release on March 5, 2026 for the upcoming Marathon remake. Last but not least, UBIsoft announced and released Rayman: 30th Anniversary Edition, on February 13. Lot to look forward to this year, what were your fave announcements of the State of Play?
