Star Fox
We got what I feel was a very pleasant surprise this past week, in the form of an announcement that a remake of the classic Star Fox 64 is coming. Well, it seems to be coming a lot sooner than you would imagine at that. In the Nintendo Direct that this was aired in, we were given all the details, including when this would be available. We will get to put our hands on it on June, 25.
While the fan community has been crying out for an original game in the series for quite a while, this reimagined version looks stunning. The cutscene shown was beautifully detailed, which are new the this version of the game, as the original did not have these. You’ll get gorgeous cutscenes during mission briefings to flesh out the story better. The stage layouts remain the same, but covered in the beautiful new graphics. The combat appears as tight and satisfying as ever; whether you’re engaging in edge of your seat dog fights, or enormous boss battles, your eyes won’t leave the screen for long.
Bringing back Fox and his squad, you’ll also feel at home with the controls. Boost, brake, and barrel roll your way through a branching route based on your path through levels. The fun new twist for this version is the inclusion of the Switch 2’s ability to use the joy cons as a mouse. At anytime in the game, you can flip the controller on its side to get that precision mouse aim.
That’s certainly not the last of the changes, as Fox and pals receive a small redesign to their images. Opting for a more animalistic approach, they now look much closer to the parallels, and I think it was a great decision. Based on what I’ve seen so far, I think this one will be yet another hit for the Big N. So get your Arwing primed and ready to return to the Lilat System, and once again take the fight to Andross!
