The Kings Have Returned

Pro Wrestling Turbo, the home of Upstate South Carolina’s most exciting, explosive action made it’s long awaited return on May, 31 and they did it as though they were never gone. Upstate SC has a vibrant, and varied, pro wrestling history. From the territory days, to now. Many have come and gone, but few have captivated their audiences like Turbo.

They have always held true to their creed: “Drama. Athleticism. Community.” They’ve especially held up to that last one, as they have been proud to serve their community, and give it the best action that they could bring. Moreover, they’ve proven, no matter the venue, they will give 110% every single time. From the men and women behind the scenes, to the men and women inside the ring. Many an alum has found their way to the radar of major promotions. Turbo, among others in the region, has played a huge part in that.

The last few shows have been hosted by the fine folks at The Mill. It’s a great spot in Fountain Inn, SC and a cool little hidden gem. Lot’s to eat, drink and even some games to play. Moreover, it’s the current home to Turbo’s incredible action!

Let’s Bring It To The Ring

I am starting this off by talking about the man that this event was named for: Brett Wolverton. Brett was a legend in the upstate wrestling scene, and always a favorite at events all around the upstate. “Let’s bring it to the ring!” was a phrase heard at every Turbo event. This phrase, Shouted to the tops of every venue, the man behind this was as big as the words he spoke. So this was a fitting tribute to a man that meant so much at not only Turbo, but the Upstate community as well.

Turbo has something for everyone, from brilliant comedy spots, to intense rivalries that keep the fire burning. Their brand of indy action is exhilarating and their recent show proved that even after a hiatus they can run circles around the rest of the Upstates’ universal challengers. Let’s Bring It To The Ring continues that tradition, and dare I say even ups the ante. This one’s for Brett.

Tag Team Gold

The opener electrified the crowd, leaving them at the edge of their seats. In fact, what an opener it was! A triple threat tag team title match, pitting the champs, D’angelo and Xavion Stores (Flex) against Dre Tha Goat and Florida Man (3Dope) and Tristan and Jonathan (The Moodys). I’ve followed all of these guys for quite a while, and this was among their best. Moreover, they all left everything in that ring.

From the rhythm taking over Dre, to an F5 touching down in Florida, plenty of drama in this one. D’angelo has such charisma, it’s easy to see this guy as a world champion someday. Therefore, seeing the crowd eating out of his hands is a given. He and Xavion proved they are still the champions during an explosive, hard-fought match.

It’s An Anya Rune-Scape

It was a return home for a longtime Turbo fan favorite. Recently signed to the WWEID program, and with a brand new moniker. Anya Rune (FKA Airica Demia) was in action against Chrstopher Prince. I am new to Christopher Prince, but I was definitely into him after this. He was a perfect heel to the Main Character.

Anya brought all of her signature smiles, styles, and UwUs with her, and as always, never failed to entertain! Prince also brought some nice offense when he wasn’t calling for timeouts and being a sneaky one. Prince especially impressed hitting a killer mid rope DDT, Randy Orton style. In Short, Anya wins the bout, and we see her father raise her arm in an emotional display.

Welcome To The Big Game

Up next, came the always entertaining Big Game James. He talks to the crowd, and we love what he’s got to say. However, some there weren’t feeling the love For Big Game James. Three men surrounded the ring, and wanted some trouble. They introduced themselves, but I will be honest, I forgot who two were, because the CrocStar stole the show from them(seriously though, Linneaus Peachers and the Red Hot Pepper deserve their flowers too!). They demanded a match, and James was more than willing to oblige, even if he was a big fan of the CrocStar.

First, he needed a partner, and PJ Ellis was that man. These two physical specimens never had a moment this match wasn’t under control. They threw around their opponents like ragdolls, and made short work of them. The only man left standing was the CrocStar, but not for long, as James and Ellis choke slammed him right out of his crocs. He definitely should have worn those in sport mode.

And Still

This promotion has seen some incredible talent hold its’ top title. The men vying for it this time, in two different situations. The champion, BK Westbrook, has held gold for the company before. Mean Dean Richards has been chasing it since he arrived. Now, as he approaches the end of his career, he takes aim again. Our challenger makes his entrance carrying his hockey stick and ready to shoot on the goal. BK was accompanied as always by the devilish Ella envy.

Ella appears injured, arm in a sling as she makes her way with the champ providing assistance. “The Supastud” walks out with his usual swagger, confident in his abilities (and Ella’s ability to interfere). Mean Dean physically led most of the match, landing a nasty chop and a devastating middle rope pile driver. Physicality was the name of the game, as both men brought punches, elbows and kicks galore. Dean hit a splash from the top, but BK wasn’t quitting.

Moreover, Ella wouldn’t let him. We got a near fall and a near new champ, but the devious Envy threw Westbrooks foot on the rope. Despite all of that, Dean had him right where he wanted him. Dead center in the middle of that ring. BK was out to a sleeper hold, but the X factor of Ella Envy had struck again, keeping the referee occupied. It wasn’t long before she was able to slip Westbrook the title, he knocked Dean out cold with it, and 1, 2, 3…. And still, Your Turbo Champion: BK Westbrook.

The Old Guard

Given South Carolina’s history with professional wrestling, you can find many trainers and schools in the area. James Johnson is one such man, out of the storied Palmetto State Wrestling Academy. A fixture at Turbo, he ran wild with his faction, Sports Entertainment Empire. He, Drew Hood, and Mila Johnson have been thorns in the side of many at Turbo events. He is here to prove that the old guard can still show the new things they haven’t seen yet. James accompanied by Mila and teaming with Mason Myles, face off against the team of Buggy Wright and Atom Honu.

Buggy and Honu make a great team, and came with some high flying, energetic action. So did Johnson and Myles. Buggy hit a beautiful Swanton Bomb, Honu delivered some hard hits, and crazy slams. Mila, still recovering from a recent surgery, also showed she wasn’t afraid to still get her hands dirty, and run some interference. By the end of the contest, the wily veteran would show why he is just that, and the teamwork of Johnson and Myles would win out. They finished Buggy with a devastating assisted pile driver, to drive the point home.

Redrum At The Mill

Brittany Jade always gets the fans going here at Turbo, and her next match was no different. She even has her one man cheering section as she does at every show. Tonight she squared off against a familiar face to the Turbo faithful in The Scholar Andre Scaro. Scaro has worked many events, both as a referee and a wrestler.

The match started with a fun Ref spot, with all three tied up and maneuvering out of a waist lock. Good opening fun, and a nice little moment. Then we were treated to some offense, as Jade worked that waist lock into a slam. Followed up with a hurricanrana and a nice clothesline to finish out a cool chain. Andre worked in some offense of his own, and they went back and forth for a bit, but Jade made quick work of The Scholar.

Let Us Introduce Some Mayhem

The Main Event. The Big One. The Final Bout. It’s absolute mayhem! Mad Dog Mayhem to be exact, a fixture in the world of Turbo. The kids love it. The adults love it. Primal fears will be faced (stepping or falling on the dreaded legos). Mad Dog Mayhem is the embodiment of the one and only Mad Dog Josh Powers, the man behind the shades.

Normally making his entrance draped in his signature chain, which he didn’t have this time, but still brandishing a shiny new trash can. His challenger, Andrew Everett, brought a nice Andre singlet, and a willingness to choke slam. Andrew the Giant tried at least. After comparing heights (Mad Dog being more than a few good inches above), he decided a test of strength was in order.

Mad Dog obliged, but first, a moment to flex. Mad Dog easily won the test of strength, but Everett wasn’t going to let that deter him. He employed some sneaky tactics, and put in some offense of his own. A crazy flying clothesline from the stage, and a high flying moonsault from the apron would have you believe he could put the Mad Dog down.

Mayhem Managed

The trash can turned that around quickly. The chairs even more so. Mad Dog had him on the ropes, and just as he was about to land a leg drop, Everett used his quickness. Mad Dog crashed to the mat hard. Everett taunted this heavily, and got some more shots in. Mad Dog fought back, bringing the legos and the door. Mad Dogs pound pups popped hard when the doors made their appearance.

Several back and forths came in these moments, threatening broken doors, and lego covered backs. Ultimately, after one of the hardest fought Mayhems I have seen, Mad Dog put Everett through the door, pinned the man, and raised his arm. This one had brought the house, and nearly the ring, down.
