Nintendo today announced something that will hopefully be the new norm, and something that sticks around for years to come. Finally, a long held issue I’ve had with not just Nintendo, but the industry in general will be fixed: There will be a price difference between physical and digital copies. At least, on Nintendo systems. Starting in May, with the release of Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, we will start to see a new structure.

Upon the release of this game, Nintendo physical and digital copies will see a difference of $10. This means physical and digital Switch 2 games will now be $69.99 and $59.99 respectively. Personally speaking, I think there should be a bigger difference, but we will take what we get. That being said, this will be a big difference to how titles were handled before, as first party games before were the same regardless. Games like Mario Kart World, Donkey Kong Bananza, and others, price was the same for all on launch.

“Nintendo games offer the same experiences whether in packaged or digital format, and this change simply reflects the different costs associated with producing and distributing each format and offers players more choice in how they can buy and play Nintendo games,” reads the official statement.

While still unclear at this time whether this will be the norm, it is a step in that direction. Hopefully we do see this across the board, and not as an isolated event. For now, Only May and subsequent releases hold that secret. As more games come out, we will have that answer.

In the meantime, check out the reveal trailer for Yoshi and the Mysterious Book. Until next time, keep your eyes glued here for all the latest!
